About Roos
Roos van der Meijs is a Dutch painter working from her home studio in Utrecht, the Netherlands. Her vibrant oil paintings explore the journey back to the self, rooted in themes of inner freedom, emotional expression, and the joy of reconnecting with the untamed, playful core that often gets buried beneath social expectations.
Creativity has been part of Roos’s life for as long as she can remember—she fell in love with drawing the moment she could hold a pencil. For years, she pursued a path in digital art, working toward a career as a concept artist. But after experiencing a burnout in 2020, she began peeling back the layers of who she thought she had to be. In 2023, she discovered her love for painting—not as a means to please others, but as a tool for self-discovery and creative freedom. Her intuitive process embraces imperfection and spontaneity, following what sparks joy over what seeks approval.
Blending my love for classical portraiture with surreal, childlike elements, I create a visual dialogue between who we are taught to be and who we truly are. The faces in my paintings act as mirrors—reflections of the being within—offering a grounded presence in dreamlike, playful worlds. They represent the adult self navigating the universe of the inner child.
I create with the belief that painting is not only a way to express yourself, but a way to return to yourself. Through my work, I invite you to step into the spotlight, to play, to explore, and to see life through curious, wonder-filled eyes ✨
